Job summary

San Antonio Metro Health District (SAMHD) seeks an experienced Sanitarian Supervisor to oversee advanced inspection and service work in environmental health, with assignments in food and water sanitation or vector control. You will supervise staff, review plans for food establishments and water systems, and provide technical recommendations to improve programs.

This grant-funded position requires working hours 6:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, with potential weekends and nights.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university including at least 30 semester hours in basic or applied science.
Three years of increasingly responsible experience as a Sanitarian.
Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.
Registration as a Professional Sanitarian in Texas.

Responsibilities

Reviews plans and specifications for food service establishments, water and on-site sewage disposal systems, and other facilities requiring public health approval.
Advises and makes recommendations concerning sewage and waste disposal systems.
Submits reports and records of duties performed, including evaluations and recommendations for improvement of programs.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff.
Performs advanced inspections and service work, with lifting and carrying of equipment up to 15 pounds.
Promotes enforcement of state laws and local ordinances through presentation of public health facts to the public.
Interprets laboratory findings on samples submitted from food establishments, water supplies, and sewage disposal plants, and recommends corrective measures.
