Teal Energi is partnered with an oil & gas company that is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Engineer - Air Compliance to provide environmental regulatory leadership at a large-scale industrial manufacturing facility. This role will have a strong emphasis on air quality compliance, while also supporting broader environmental programs and serving as a key resource to site leadership.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, or a similar highly regulated industrial environment, along with a strong understanding of federal and state environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee site air compliance programs, including permitting, regulatory reporting, emissions monitoring, and ongoing permit requirements.
- Maintain and manage air permits, approvals, and associated regulatory documentation.
- Monitor environmental performance and identify opportunities to strengthen compliance, improve processes, and enhance environmental management systems.
- Provide oversight of recurring environmental reporting, including emissions inventories, NSPS/MACT reporting, and other regulatory submissions.
- Coordinate responses to regulatory agency inquiries and participate in inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Technical Services, and other site functions to address environmental compliance requirements.
- Oversee programs involving flare monitoring, CEMS performance, emissions testing, and related air compliance activities.
- Support environmental data management initiatives, including data quality assurance, reporting systems, dashboards, and performance indicators.
- Stay current on developing federal and state environmental regulations and evaluate their potential impact on site operations.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental compliance and operational performance.
- Develop and deliver environmental training, procedures, and compliance guidance to site personnel.
- Review environmental documentation and reports for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in root cause investigations and assist with corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide environmental leadership and guidance to engineers, contractors, and other team members.
- Serve as a backup to the site Environmental Manager when needed.
- Participate in emergency response activities and provide off-hours support when required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred), Environmental Engineering, or another relevant engineering/technical discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience within refining, petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, or a comparable industrial environment; 15+ years preferred.
- 6+ years of environmental regulatory experience, with significant experience in air compliance; 10+ years preferred.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience overseeing engineers, contractors, or environmental programs is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of air permitting and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Ability to read and understand P&IDs and PFDs.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, mechanical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and regulatory deadlines.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of an organization, including technical and operational teams.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer-based reporting and data management tools.
- Ability to adjust work hours and priorities based on operational and regulatory needs.
- Comfortable working in an industrial environment where exposure to chemicals and potentially hazardous or combustible materials may occur.
- Must be willing and able to participate in emergency response activities, including occasional after-hours callouts.
