Job summary

CSX is seeking an experienced Environmental Attorney to join its Law Department in Jacksonville, Florida. This role provides strategic legal counsel and manages environmental risks across the rail network, facilities, operations, and business activities.

The ideal candidate holds a J.D., with at least five years of environmental law experience, and admission to practice in the United States. Responsibilities include advising on CERCLA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and related matters,

Qualifications

• J.D. required with substantial environmental law experience.
• Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
• Experience advising on environmental regulatory compliance, investigations, enforcement actions, and litigation.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical legal counsel on federal and state environmental laws and regulations (CERCLA, CWA, CAA, RCRA, NEPA).
• Manage complex environmental litigation, regulatory investigations, and enforcement actions before courts and agencies.
• Advise on environmental issues in real estate, commercial, and corporate transactions, including due diligence and risk allocation.
• Direct and manage outside counsel while developing strategies for litigation, regulatory matters, and transactions.
• Draft, review, and negotiate settlement agreements and environmental indemnities.
