Job summary

Berkley Environmental in Jersey City, NJ is seeking an experienced Environmental Claims Adjuster to analyze coverage and liability for complex GL or pollution claims across multiple states. The role requires strong negotiation and independent work, with travel for mediations and conferences as needed.

You will evaluate claims, negotiate settlements within authority, prepare coverage opinions, and collaborate with insureds and agents.

Qualifications

• At least 7–10 years' experience handling complex GL or pollution environmental claims.
• Multi-state experience required.
• Litigation experience required.
• Ability to work independently while assimilating various technical subjects.
• Strong verbal and written communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete coverage analysis.
• Conduct the necessary investigation, either by phone or through independent adjusters, to determine coverage, liability and damages.
• Evaluate, negotiate, and settle assigned property damage or severe GL and/or complex bodily injury claims within authority granted, or seek authority for those claims in excess of authority.
• Resolve coverage disputes with insureds and agents.
• Prepare coverage opinion letters.
