Job summary

Berkley Environmental (a Berkley Company) is seeking an experienced Auto Liability Claims Examiner to handle moderate complexity auto claims in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires litigation management knowledge across jurisdictions and the ability to reserve accurately. This is a hybrid in-office position, preferably Jersey City, NJ, but may also be based in Philadelphia, PA; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or Irving, TX.

Qualifications

• 4-year college degree with a concentration in business, law, public administration or insurance preferred.
• Advanced industry designations such as AIC, CCP, or CPCU preferred.
• 5+ years experience handling claims in Commercial Lines with ability to identify coverage issues.
• 2+ years experience handling litigated injury claims.
• Ability to work independently with moderate supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; capable of presenting to upper management.

Responsibilities

• Investigate to determine coverage, liability and damages.
• Evaluate, negotiate and settle claims within authority or seek authority for exceedances.
• Obtain required adjuster licenses within 180 days.
• Manage claims from start to finish with plans for early resolution.
• Handle property damage files, including total loss vehicles.
• Guide defense attorneys to develop cost-efficient litigation plans.
• Provide a positive customer service experience.
• Maintain diaries on outstanding claims and prepare large loss reports.
• Meet targets for reserving standards, quality audits, closing ratios and expense controls.
• Keep adjuster licenses current by CE courses.
