Job summary

The Department of Ecology's Manchester Environmental Laboratory in Washington State is seeking a Chemist 3 to perform chemical analyses of water, soil, tissue and consumer products to generate legally defensible data for environmental clients.

The position requires 8 years of related experience or education, meticulous QA/QC, and strong data management. Telework is eligible with 3–5 days per week in the office; duties include instrument maintenance and data review.

Qualifications

• 8 years of experience and/or education related to the duties of the position.
• Strong QA/QC and data integrity focus.
• Ability to review data packages for completeness and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical analysis on water, soil, tissue, and consumer product samples using GC-ECD, GC-FID, GC-MS, and related techniques.
• Ensure data meets QC criteria or take corrective actions.
• Review other chemists’ data packages for completeness and accuracy.
• Troubleshoot analytical and preparation issues; act as backup chemist when needed.
• Maintain instruments and perform routine maintenance.
