Job summary

Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is seeking an advanced Environmental Specialist to lead and perform environmental and cultural impact analyses for state projects. The role includes archaeological surveys, Section 106 coordination with state/federal agencies, and managing consultants.

The position requires a master’s degree in Archaeology/Anthropology or a closely related field, plus experience in environmental planning, budgeting, and project management.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
  • Knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and 36 CFR Part 800.
  • Two years’ experience in environmental specialist work including analysis and assessment of environmental/cultural impacts.
  • Two years’ experience in data analysis and two years in technical report writing.
  • One year experience in environmental project management.

Responsibilities

  • Performs environmental specialist work across wildlife, wetlands, air quality, civil rights, historic properties and archaeology sites.
  • Provides guidance to engineering, agencies, and stakeholders to integrate environmental considerations into programs.
  • Ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and standards across projects.
  • Conducts research and field studies; analyzes data and regulatory submissions.
  • Prepares technical reports, consultation documentation, permits, and MOAs.
  • Coordinates with agencies to obtain permits and approvals; negotiates mitigation commitments.
  • Meets with project staff and agencies to resolve compliance issues and keep projects moving.
  • Formulates plans and policies to protect the environment.
  • Engages community leaders and groups to educate on environmental impacts and stewardship.
