Job summary

Amazon’s Alexa Enterprise team seeks a Senior Applied Scientist with a strong background in speech and audio ML to set scientific direction and drive production-ready solutions for enterprise customers. You will own model evaluation, tuning, and real-time inference optimization, partnering with software engineers to turn science into scalable capabilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years building ML models for business applications.
• PhD or Master's with 6+ years of applied research experience.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related language.
• Experience with neural deep learning methods and ML.

Responsibilities

• Set the scientific direction for improving speech-to-text across domain-specific use cases and real-world operating conditions.
• Lead evaluation, adaptation, and fine-tuning of speech/audio models considering accuracy, latency, cost, and deployment constraints.
• Improve end-to-end audio pipelines performance and latency from signal processing to transcription.
• Define datasets, benchmarks, experiments, and evaluation methodologies reflecting customer use cases.
• Lead model and inference pipeline optimization for reliable, real-time operation.
• Collaborate with enterprise customers to understand quality challenges and validate improvements.
• Transform customer insights into reusable models and evaluation methods for broader platforms.
• Coordinate with software engineering to productionize models and monitor performance.
• Document results, lead reviews, and communicate trade-offs to engineering, product, and business leaders.
• Mentor scientists and engineers, participate in hiring, and raise team standards.
