Job summary

Amazon Science in Seattle is seeking an Applied Scientist with a strong background in speech and audio machine learning. You will advance speech-to-text for domain-specific use cases and optimize end-to-end audio pipelines in collaboration with software engineers.

You’ll design experiments, evaluate models, and iterate toward real-time, scalable solutions deployed for enterprise customers across AWS services.

Qualifications

• 3+ years developing models for business applications
• PhD or Master’s degree with 4+ years in CS/CE/ML or related field
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
• Knowledge of standard speech and machine learning techniques
• Experience in algorithms, data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing

Responsibilities

• Develop modeling techniques to improve speech-to-text accuracy for domain-specific use cases
• Evaluate, adapt, and fine-tune speech and audio models based on accuracy, latency, cost, reliability, and deployment constraints
• Improve performance and latency of end-to-end audio pipelines from signal processing to transcription
• Design datasets, benchmarks, experiments, and evaluation methodologies reflecting customer use cases
• Optimize models and inference pipelines for real-time operation
• Work directly with enterprise customers to understand quality challenges and validate improvements
• Turn customer engagement patterns into reusable models and evaluation methods
• Collaborate with software engineers to productionize models and measure performance
• Write scientific documents, lead reviews, and communicate results to stakeholders
• Contribute to team scientific direction and mentoring
