Job summary

NJ TRANSIT seeks a senior Network Engineering Specialist to lead the architecture, engineering, implementation, modernization, and operational support of its enterprise network across corporate facilities, rail and bus locations, and data centers.

The role covers routing, switching, WAN/SD-WAN, data center networking, wireless, internet connectivity, and security integration, collaborating with multiple teams and technology vendors to deliver reliable, secure, and highly available network

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 10+ years of enterprise network engineering experience in large environments.
• Expert-level knowledge of routing and switching.
• Advanced experience with Cisco routers, Catalyst switches, Nexus platforms.
• Strong knowledge of BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, TCP/IP, VLANs, VRFs, STP, QoS, VPNs, route redistribution.
• Experience with WAN and SD-WAN architecture and implementations.

Responsibilities

• Design, engineer, implement, configure, troubleshoot, and optimize enterprise LAN and WAN infrastructure.
• Develop network standards, reference architectures, engineering specifications, and configuration standards.
• Perform capacity planning, performance analysis, lifecycle management, and modernization.
• Engineer WAN connectivity across Internet, MPLS, Ethernet, and fiber services.
• Troubleshoot WAN performance, latency, loss, jitter, routing, and application performance.
• Support data center technologies (Nexus, Cisco ACI) and data center modernization.
• Engineer high-speed connectivity (10G/40G/100G/400G) where required.
• Support network security architectures and cloud connectivity.
• Create high-level and low-level designs, MOPs, test plans, and operational docs.
