Job summary

The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia seeks an Application Developer / Senior Application Developer to design, develop, and support enterprise applications following standardized software practices. You will translate requirements into designs for mission-critical, highly available systems and address daily technical challenges for clients.

The Senior role adds guidance, timelines, peer reviews and security considerations across projects within ISC.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
1 to 3 years of application development experience; or an equivalent combination of education and training.
Familiarity with Ellucian Banner extensibility tools, including Page Builder or similar technologies.
Familiarity with Ellucian Banner APIs.
Experience working with Ellucian Banner Student, Financial Aid, and/or Student Accounts Receivable modules.
Experience with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL for database development and maintenance.
Application development experience using Java and/or Python.
Familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and REST and/or SOAP web services.
Familiarity working in Unix or Linux environments and using shell scripting.
Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
Ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document technical solutions clearly.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross‑functional team environment.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, implement, maintain and monitor application software and associated middleware, interfaces and databases in highly complex environments.
Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design, create technical specifications to assure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation after implementation.
Collaborate with business systems analysts, architects, cloud engineers, and other stakeholders to design systems, gather information on project constraints and capabilities, and address performance, interface standards, and security requirements.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Design, develop, test, implement, maintain and monitor application software and associated middleware; interfaces and databases in highly complex environments.

Consult with business systems analysts, project managers, and teams within ISC, as well as other schools and centers, to discuss project status, proposals, and technical matters such as software system design or maintenance.
