Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a part-time Technician A for the Manufacturing Systems Lab within the College of Engineering. You will support lab classes and research, assist with safety training, and help with equipment setup and operation.

Responsibilities include machining, welding, foundry work, and material testing, plus using CNC machines and precision measuring tools. A high school diploma with two-year technical college degree and 3–4 years of experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship or equivalent education.
  • Three to four years of relevant industry experience.
  • Proficiency in advanced shop mathematics and interpreting complex drawings, specifications, charts and tables.

Responsibilities

  • Support laboratory classes and research projects with small groups.
  • Assist with safety training and safety monitoring in Labs.
  • Assist with equipment training for faculty, students, and staff.
  • Perform machining and operation of milling machines, lathes, drill presses, and saws.
  • Execute foundry work: green sand, mold making, and induction furnaces.
  • Perform welding duties and maintenance of welding equipment.
  • Conduct destructive and non-destructive material testing.
