Job summary

Best Buy is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for the Marketplace team to lead engineers building scalable platform capabilities that power seller onboarding, catalog, pricing, and order management across the marketplace ecosystem.

You will partner with product, architecture, and operations to define technical strategy, ensure reliability and security, and coach high‑performing teams in a hybrid on‑site/remote environment at the Richfield, MN campus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of back-end software engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years as a software developer in web technologies like React.
• 2+ years leading engineering teams.
• 2+ years of experience with monitoring tools (Splunk, Kibana, Grafana, Dynatrace).
• 2+ years of experience with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• 1+ years of experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS/GCP).

Job description

As the Senior Engineering Manager with the Marketplace team, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for building and operating critical marketplace platform capabilities that power the growth and success of Best Buy’s Marketplace ecosystem. You will drive the development of scalable seller, catalog, inventory, pricing, order management, fulfillment, and integration services that enable third-party sellers to efficiently onboard, manage products and store insights, and deliver exceptional customer experiences. In this role, you will partner closely with product, engineering, business, and operations teams to define and execute the technical strategy for Marketplace platforms. You will ensure platform reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence while enabling innovation and accelerating Marketplace growth. As a people leader, you will foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, collaboration, and engineering excellence while coaching and developing high-performing teams.

This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work on site Tuesday through Thursday at the Best Buy corporate office in Richfield, Minnesota. You can work virtually from home or another non Best Buy location on Friday. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and develop engineering teams delivering Marketplace Platform capabilities, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation.
• Architect and develop scalable solutions within a distributed CQRS, Event Sourced microservices architecture using Java Spring, leveraging Agentic AI as a core development tool.
• Partner with product, architecture, UX, and business stakeholders to define priorities, technical strategy, and execution plans aligned to business objectives.
• Drive predictable delivery across multiple initiatives by managing scope, timelines, risks, dependencies, and team capacity while promoting Agile and CI/CD best practices.
• Provide technical leadership for modern cloud-based and enterprise systems, ensuring high standards of quality, security, performance, scalability, reliability, and operational readiness.
• Coach and mentor engineers while collaborating with platform and vendor teams to integrate new technologies, improve engineering effectiveness, and support long-term business outcomes.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant back-end software engineering experience
• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience
• 4+ years of experience as a software developer in standard web technologies like React
• 2+ years managing and/or leading engineering teams to include day to day management and career development.
• 2+ years on monitoring and alerting tools sets like Splunk, Kibana, GoAlert, Grafana, Dynatrace and others.
• 2+ years of experience in GCP functions like Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, Big Data, and BigQuery.
• 2 or more years of experience with SQL / No SQL databases (AWS Aurora, Cassandra, PostGres, etc.)
• 1+ years of experience with Cloud Computing platforms (e.g., Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Relevant professional experience in engineering, technology delivery, or platform development.
• Experience managing engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development.
• Experience leading teams that build custom solutions using modern languages, cloud technologies, SDLC practices, and engineering tools.
• Experience managing delivery across multiple products, programs, or cross-functional initiatives with complex dependencies.
• Experience working in retail, supply chain, order management or similar technology domains.
