Job summary

Slack is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Core Services engineering team to keep Slack highly available at massive scale. You will own the technical direction across Edge Caches, Realtime Services, Enterprise Key Management, IDR, and Image Proxying, and drive major migrations such as Flannel to Loom.

You will manage on-call operations for Tier 0 services, partner with Product, Security, Compliance, AWS, and other teams, and champion reliability and scalable engineering practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years leading engineering teams on high-scale backend infrastructure or distributed systems.
• Strong fundamentals in software engineering and architecture discussions around caching, observability, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction and roadmap across Core Services: Edge Caches, Realtime Services, EKM, IDR, and Image Proxying.
• Lead a multi-system migration from Flannel to Loom while maintaining full reliability.
• Drive delivery with emphasis on reliability, sprint planning, releases, and incident follow-ups.
• Own on-call operations and incident management for Tier 0 services across teams.
• Collaborate with Product, Security, Compliance, AWS, and other teams on dependencies and priorities.
• Represent team work in leadership reviews and planning; build compelling business-and-technical cases.
