Job summary

Slack is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Data Infrastructure team to design, build, and operate scalable data systems at scale. You will own core data services, ensure uptime, and mentor junior teammates while advancing security and cost efficiency.

You will collaborate across data engineering, platform, and security teams to create reliable, observable data workflows and analytics infrastructure that power real-time and batch insights for Slack customers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software, platform, or infrastructure engineering experience.
• Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
• Proven experience building, deploying, and operating distributed infrastructure at scale.
• Deep background in big data and infrastructure technologies listed.
• Proficiency in Python, Golang, Bash, and SQL.
• Experience with CI/CD, Vault, Terraform, Chef, and Grafana.
• Hands-on data pipelines or data engineering workflows is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate reliable and scalable data infrastructure powering Slack’s analytics.
• Serve as DRI for multiple core data services at analytics scale, ensuring uptime and reliability.
• Drive security, cost efficiency, and developer experience improvements.
• Build automation and self-service tools for data workflows.
• Collaborate with data engineering, platform, and security teams on scalable solutions.
• Enhance observability, monitoring, and alerting with Grafana and related tooling.
• Mentor and coach engineers, modeling ownership and operational excellence.
