Fastly is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for the Containers at the Edge team to architect, deploy, and manage distributed container infrastructure across edge nodes to support customer workloads.

You will define strategy, hire and scale a high-performing team, collaborate with product and SRE owners, and contribute technically to advance the platform while communicating with executives.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience managing Software Engineering or SRE teams.
• 10+ years in distributed systems, CDN, or cloud infrastructure incl. container networking, platform ownership, and virtualization.
• Hands-on development experience with Go, Rust, or C/C++.
• Proven ability to drive a durable technical roadmap and cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience building and automating large-scale production infra in on-prem environments.
• Extensive Linux experience with strong system internals and performance optimization.

This role is a Senior Engineering Manager leading the Containers at the Edge team, which is responsible for architecting, deploying, and managing distributed container infrastructure across geographically diverse, resource-constrained nodes to support customer workloads.

What You’ll Do

• Define long-term strategic vision and multi-year technical roadmap aligned with Fastly’s business objectives
• Hire, develop, and scale a high-performing engineering team including software engineers, principal-level individual contributors, and SREs
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define clear roadmaps and priorities using a product-owner mindset
• Communicate strategy, progress, and risk profile to executive leadership and technical stakeholders across the company
• Leverage deep technical experience to contribute personally to development and drive innovation across the platform

What You Need

• 4+ years of experience managing Software Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering teams
• 10+ years of related technical experience with distributed systems, CDN, or cloud infrastructure including container networking, platform ownership, and virtualization technology
• Extensive hands-on software development experience using Go, Rust, or C/C++
• Demonstrated ability to drive a durable technical roadmap and facilitate effective collaboration in cross-functional teams
• Experience building and automating large-scale production infrastructure in on-premises environments within complex and dynamic networking environments
• Extensive hands-on experience working in a Linux environment with solid understanding of system internals and performance optimization

• Experience participating in open source communities or standards bodies
• Experience transforming production enterprise-scale environments to new technologies

Estimated salary range $228,280–$273,936. This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly's equity and discretionary bonus programs.
