Job summary

Slack seeks a seasoned engineering leader to join our Backend and Frontend Client Infrastructure teams under Architecture and Systems. Lead two high-performing teams, shaping the roadmap and driving critical Slack business objectives with a backend or full-stack background.

You will partner with engineers, PMs, and managers to balance trade-offs against priorities, maintain momentum on large-scale initiatives, and advocate for the team’s interests.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching and mentoring a team of engineers (leadership).
• Experience designing, scaling, and operating backend services/distributed systems.
• Deep knowledge of API design principles.
• Deep knowledge of browsers and frontend technologies.
• Ability to handle uncertainty, ambiguity, and high-stakes priorities.
• Ability to explain trade-offs: service workers, boot frameworks, websockets.
• Ability to make rapid technical decisions in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Set long-term vision and execution strategy using technical insight.
• Define, monitor, and report quarterly measures for team deliverables.
• Represent team in planning, product, and leadership meetings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Slack engineering to drive alignment.
• Identify opportunities and trade-offs to include team in product initiatives.
• Promote productivity, performance, and code health through modern frontend infrastructure.
• Mentor and advocate for career development and promotions.
• Be a strategic partner in security and product initiatives.
• Champion AI-assisted development practices across engineering and ops.
