Job description

This Opportunity

WSP USA is seeking a Senior Engineering Geologist for our New York, NY Office!

Provides geological support to the project and executes specialized activities during design and construction. Develops, implements and manages complex geotechnical investigations by evaluating subsurface soil, rock, and groundwater conditions to inform engineering design and construction recommendations. Leads coordination with clients, subcontractors and 3rd parties. Oversees the development of geologic models, subsurface profiles, and geologic cross-sections. Collaborates with geotechnical engineers to develop design parameter, leads Geotechnical Data Report (GDR) preparation and provides support to Geotechnical Baseline Report (GBR) preparation. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact
  • Plan, coordinate, and prepare specifications, bid evaluations, and award recommendations for geotechnical investigations.
  • Develop geotechnical/geological investigation plans based on project need and subsequently supervise field investigations, including required geophysical surveys and laboratory tests.
  • Conduct geological and geohazard mapping.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Coordinate work between specialty and engineering groups or disciplines, the client, suppliers, contractors, and other divisional groups.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, analysis, and reporting.
  • Prepare geotechnical data reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Oversee equipment/tool performance, calibration, troubleshooting of malfunctions, and inventory control.
  • Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of geologic and hydrogeologic data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans to mitigate design risks
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience working as a Geologist.
  • Analytical skills, and proficient with geological research techniques and protocol.
  • Experience in geotechnical investigation including soil and rock sample and classifications.
  • Experience with industry standard commercial computer software including Microsoft Office, Bentley gINT/Open Ground, and Leapfrog.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontracted drillers, excavation contractors, utility locators, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or closely related discipline.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $85,000.00 - $145,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
