Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory invites applications for the Principal Associate Director (PAD) for Engineering. In this senior role you report to the Laboratory Director and lead our engineering workforce of ~3,000, shaping strategy for hardware and computational capabilities to support national security missions.

You will collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team, secure external funding, and drive AI, digital engineering, and advanced manufacturing integration while ensuring safety,

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain DOE Q/SCI clearance.
• PhD in engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive senior-level leadership of a large-scale, mission-oriented R&D organization.
• National visibility in engineering and its applications.
• Broad knowledge of the DOE/NNSA Laboratory enterprise.
• Experience hiring, budgeting, and strategic planning for a large technical organization.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Senior Leadership Team to set and advance institutional strategies.
• Sustain and grow world-class engineering capabilities from R&D to pilot production and qualification.
• Oversee safety, security, environmental stewardship, and quality assurance across the directorate.
• Manage budget, personnel, and external funding for early-stage concepts.
• Collaborate with government, academia, and industry stakeholders including DOE/NNSA.
• Lead workforce development and articulate long-term multidisciplinary initiatives.
