Job summary

Kier & Wright Civil Engineers and Surveyors in Irvine, CA, seeks a Senior Engineering Designer (Land Development) who can independently solve design problems and produce Civil 3D plans with minimal supervision.

The role focuses on developing civil plan sets (grading, drainage, paving) and coordinating with engineers and PMs, while ensuring CAD standards and project requirements are met across multiple assignments.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of AutoCAD Civil 3D, civil engineering, or land development experience.
• Proficient in CAD standards and basic engineering calculations.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe products.

Responsibilities

• Carries out tasks assigned by the Project Lead and engineering team.
• Assisting with the design of on-site and off-site improvements under senior staff.
• Develops civil plan sets (grading, drainage, paving) from sketches in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D grading feature lines, terrain model, earthworks, corridors, labels.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D utility pipe networks, modification of utility structures.
• Determines scales, layout, and need for specific detail.
• Prepares drawings per company CAD standards and project CAD specifications.
• Manages time to meet obligations of one or more projects, including budget, quality and schedule.
• Other duties as assigned.

SENIOR ENGINEERING DESIGNER (LAND DEVELOPMENT) - Irvine, CA

What we're looking for?

The Senior Engineering Technician can independently solve design problems and carry out tasks assigned by civil engineers and project managers with little supervision. They must be highly proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D to independently prepare technical engineering plans. They will also research engineering requirements, prepare basic engineering calculations, maintain company CAD standards, and assist in preparing reports or related work as required.

What you will do

• Carries out tasks assigned by the Project Lead and engineering team.
• Assisting with the design of on-site and off-site improvements under the direction of senior engineering staff.
• Develops civil plan sets (grading, drainage, and paving) from sketches in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D grading feature lines, terrain model, earthworks, corridors, labels, etc.
• Proficient in AutoCAD Civil3D utility pipe networks, modification of utility structures, etc.
• Determines scales, layout, and need for specific detail.
• Prepares drawings per company CAD standards and project-dependent CAD specifications.
• Manages personal time allotted to various tasks in order to meet obligations of one or more projects, including budget, quality and schedule.
• Other duties as assigned.

What you have

Education + Experience

• 6+ years of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, civil engineering, and/or land development projects
• General knowledge of computers, Microsoft office, Adobe, Internet, etc.

Physical Requirements and/or Working Conditions

• Prolonged periods of sitting (up to 8 hours a day for office staff)
• Interacting with technology (computer, cellphone, etc.)
• Ability to lift and/or carry items (up to 20 lbs.)
• Prolonged periods of standing/walking (field checks)
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (field checks)
• Occasional travel e.g. driving to offices, jobsites, client meetings, etc.
