Kier & Wright Civil Engineers and Surveyors is seeking a Project Engineer I (Land Development) in Sacramento, CA. You will support project teams, develop civil design drawings, and perform engineering calculations under supervision, while collaborating with technicians and consultants to deliver quality plans ready for permitting and construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience; 2025-2026 graduates welcomed.
• 0-5 years of experience in land development.
• EIT or exam planned is preferred.
• Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, Adobe, internet apps.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam preferred.
• Additional software experience a plus, e.g., Agtek, Hydrology/ Hydraulic Software.

Responsibilities

• Carries out tasks assigned by Project Lead and engineering team.
• Develops working drawings for civil design plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D (grading, drainage, utility, street frontage) from sketches.
• Uses engineering judgment to perform duties and know when to ask questions or research.
• Manages personal time to meet obligations of one or more projects (budget, quality, schedule).
• Provide accurate design of on-site and off-site improvements for planning and construction ready for construction.
• Can design grading, drainage, utilities and stormwater treatment with minimal input from engineer of record.
• Performs civil engineering calculations, SWPPP’s and other reports.
• Interacts with peers, clients, and sub-consultants.

PROJECT ENGINEER I (LAND DEVELOPMENT) - Sacramento, CA

What we're looking for?

In this role, the Project Engineer provides engineering support to project teams. At this level, this individual is gaining experience and will be able to take on some tasks without supervision. The individual must understand, design and independently prepare technical engineering plans and effectively collaborate with technicians to complete technical design plans. The project engineer will provide assistance in all technical aspects of projects, conduct engineering research, assessments, and coordinate with private consultants and public agencies.

What you will do

• Carries out tasks assigned by the Project Lead and engineering team.
• Develops working drawings for civil design plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D (grading, drainage, utility, stormwater management and street frontage improvements) from sketches.
• Uses engineering judgment to perform duties and knows when to ask questions, seek assistance or perform independent research.
• Manages personal time allotted to various tasks in order to meet obligations of one or more projects, including budget, quality and schedule.
• Provide accurate design of on-site and off-site improvements for the planning and construction of commercial, industrial, and/or high-density residential projects that are ready for construction.
• Can provide accurate design of grading, drainage, utilities and stormwater treatment with minimal input from engineer of record.
• Performs civil engineering calculations, SWPPP’s and other engineering reports.
• Effectively interacts with peers, clients, and sub-consultants.
  

What you have

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent level of experience (2025-2026 Graduates are welcome to apply)
• 0-5 years of experience in land development
• Engineering in training (EIT) or scheduled to sit for exam is preferred
• General knowledge of computers, Microsoft office, Adobe, Internet applications, etc.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam, preferred
• Additional software experience a plus, e.g., Agtek, Hydrology/Hydraulic Software
  

Physical Requirements and/or Working Conditions

• Prolonged periods of sitting (up to 8 hours a day for office staff)
• Interacting with technology (computer, cellphone, etc.)
• Ability to lift and/or carry items ( up to 20 lbs.)
• Prolonged periods of standing/walking (field checks)
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions(field checks)
• Occasional travel e.g. driving to offices, jobsites, client meetings, etc.
