Job summary

Teck American Incorporated seeks a Senior Engineer, Tailings & Mine Waste to act as RTFE for tailings facilities across the U.S. portfolio, with primary responsibility for Pend Oreille Mine.

The role involves closure strategies, dam safety, surveillance, and long-term performance objectives, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants. Preferred location Spokane, WA, with flexibility to work in several U.S.

Qualifications

• Requires strong geotechnical tailings and closure experience; leadership abilities and collaborative skills.
• Experience coordinating external consultants and contractors on complex tailings projects.
• Familiarity with U.S. regulatory requirements (OSHA, CERCLA, RCRA) and closure governance.

Responsibilities

• Act as RTFE for tailings facilities across the U.S. portfolio, ensuring dam safety and alignment with closure objectives.
• Lead development and evaluation of tailings closure design strategies and surveillance programs.
• Guide technical, risk-based decisions in geotechnical investigations, construction, and monitoring.
• Maintain OMS documentation and training for closure-stage facilities and ensure knowledge transfer to teams.
