Job summary

Wallace Montgomery seeks an experienced Structures Engineer to join our Fairfax, VA or Richmond, VA team. You will develop bridge and structural construction documents for transportation projects in Virginia, focusing on VDOT and local municipalities.

This role includes NBIS-compliant bridge safety inspections, specialized analyses of overweight vehicle permits, and structural modeling using MicroStation, OpenBridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited civil engineering degree required.
• Virginia PE license required.
• 5+ years of bridge design and/or inspection experience.
• Experience with VDOT bridge design guidelines, inspection procedures, and permit reviews preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare structure and bridge design calculations, plans, and estimates for bridge projects.
• Assist with and/or lead NBIS-compliant Bridge Safety Inspections.
• Perform specialized analyses of overweight truck permits and routes.
• Model and analyze structures using MicroStation, OpenBridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP.
• Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, and environmental staff to deliver integrated solutions.
• Develop construction documents and specifications; mentor junior engineers; supervise designers and technicians.

Job description

Wallace Montgomery is seeking an experienced Structures Engineer to join our Fairfax, VA or Richmond, VA team. In this role, you will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team developing bridge and structural construction documents for transportation related projects in Virginia, with a focus on Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and other local municipalities. This role will also include functions like assisting with and/or leading bridge safety inspections and supporting specialized analysis of overweight vehicle permits.

Essential Functions

• Prepare structure and bridge design calculations, plans, and estimates for bridge projects, including new designs, rehabilitations, and replacements.
• Assist with and/or lead NBIS-compliant Bridge Safety Inspections.
• Perform specialized analyses of overweight truck permits to ensure extremely heavy vehicles can safely cross bridges and travel designated routes throughout Maryland.
• Conduct and review structural modeling and analysis using MicroStation, OpenBridge, Brass, LARS Bridge, MDX, and LEAP products.
• Collaborate with roadway, drainage, geotechnical, traffic, and environmental staff to deliver integrated project solutions.
• Support the development of construction documents and specifications.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide quality control/assurance efforts.
• May include supervision of designers and technicians of routine activities and projects.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in bridge design/and or inspection experience.
• Experience with VDOT bridge design guidelines and specifications, inspection procedures, and permit review processes strongly preferred.
