We are seeking a Senior Engineer – Project Engineering to lead medium-to-large, multi-year aerospace engineering projects. This role will oversee project schedules, budgets, hardware development, and testing while coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure program objectives, customer requirements, and delivery milestones are met. The ideal candidate will drive risk mitigation, cost efficiency, and effective communication across engineering teams and leadership.
What You Will Do
- Confidently communicate clearly and concisely with peers and Collins leadership.
- Identify mitigation plans for impacted projects.
- Pursue cost-saving opportunities to maximize project profitability.
- Conduct meetings; consolidate and present plans and progress reports related to project business activities.
- Identify and respond to project issues and recommend solutions, such as reallocating resources or modifying contractual specifications.
- Oversee and coordinate the administrative and operational aspects of ongoing projects in accordance with program guidelines.
- Liaise among project management, planning, project teams, and production line management.
- Review project and budget status, manage schedules, and prepare reports.
- Manage and coordinate hardware development configurations throughout the engineering process.
- Monitor and assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction goals and objectives.
- Ensure projects meet program schedules and budgets, and maintain integrated master schedules.
- Coordinate hardware equipment modifications throughout the development process.
- Complete gated reviews throughout the project lifecycle to ensure optimal schedule efficiency.
- Understand and execute test procedures.
- Analyze, interpret, and report test results.
- Verify that internal processes are followed to reduce the likelihood of engineering setbacks.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, provide markups, and coordinate drawing releases.
- Estimate and track project budgets and schedules using Earned Value Management System (EVMS) data to support decision-making.
- Develop schedules and project budgets for new business proposals.
- Travel domestically and internationally as required, approximately 25–50% of the time.
- Execute medium- to large-scale projects through completion over multiple years.
- Document best practices in engineering standard work.
- Develop test procedures and complete test reports to verify product requirements.
You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain security clearance.
We Prefer
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in the aerospace or defense industry, particularly with aerospace test equipment, high-performance engine systems, or complex hardware programs.
- Experience with project scheduling, budgeting, and Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), including management of project budgets exceeding 10 million.
- Experience developing and managing Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) using Microsoft Project.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems, including gearing, motion control, rotational mechanics, and mechanical design principles.
- Understanding of engineering materials, manufacturing processes, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Experience with mechanical systems integration in aerospace or defense applications.
- Familiarity with test planning, execution, and reporting processes.
- Experience with LabVIEW, Visual Basic, or similar programming and test automation tools.
The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
