Job summary

Mission Support and Test Services seeks a Senior Engineer to act as SME within the Data & Diagnostics Group. The role leads machining, fabrication, and design efforts for advanced research and operational programs at NNSS in Nevada.

You will guide engineers and scientists, oversee facilities and equipment, and develop build-ready components using SolidWorks, mills, lathes, EDM, and 3D printing while ensuring safety and compliance with applicable codes.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in ABET-accredited engineering program or calculus-based STEM degree in engineering.
Professional Engineer license is a plus.
At least 5 years of relevant experience in fabrication, machining, and R&D environments.

Responsibilities

Serve as SME for the Data & Diagnostics Group, providing technical guidance to engineers, scientists, and management.
Oversee advanced technical facility, machine shop, and manufacturing systems to keep experiments mission-ready.
Lead machine shop operations producing precision components with mills, lathes, EDM, and 3D printing.
Design custom components in SolidWorks and create build-ready designs for unique programs.
Develop field programs and instrumentation designs to support experiments and operations.
Ensure fabrications and facility changes meet safety standards and engineering codes.
Support proposals and subcontract evaluation with fabrication and machining input.
Collaborate across teams to deliver high-quality hardware on schedule.
