Job summary

Mission Support and Test Services seeks a Senior Engineer to act as SME in the Data & Diagnostics Group, guiding fabrication, machining, and instrumentation for advanced research programs.

The role leads machine shop operations, designs build-ready components in SolidWorks, and ensures compliance with safety and engineering standards at the Nevada National Security Site. DOE Q clearance required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees.
• Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering acceptable.
• Professional Engineer license preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in fabrication and machining.
• Subject matter expertise in fabrication and machining for research or operational applications.
• Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software.
• Expert-level knowledge of precision machining (mills, lathes, EDM) and additive manufacturing.
• Experience developing field programs and selecting instrumentation systems.
• Experience supporting proposals/subcontract preparation and evaluation.
• Strong knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for the Data & Diagnostics Group, providing technical guidance to engineers, scientists, and management.
• Oversee advanced facility, machine shop, and manufacturing systems to support research and operations.
• Lead machine shop operations producing precision components with mills, lathes, EDM, and 3D printing.
• Design custom components in SolidWorks and convert needs into build-ready designs.
• Develop field programs and instrumentation to support experimental needs.
• Contribute to proposals and subcontract evaluation with fabrication expertise.
• Ensure compliance with engineering codes, standards, and safety requirements.
