Qualifications

• Four-year degree or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of software development experience, including experience with Java or Kotlin
• Experience developing APIs, Kafka Consumer, RDBMS & No-Sql data modelling and building ETL pipelines that enable payment orchestration capabilities
• Practical familiarity with AI tools and technologies such as LLMs, agentic AI, and MCP, and an interest in learning how they work and where they are useful
• Ability to work independently with cross-functional partners and communicate effectively across teams and geographies
• Ability to write and organize code using multiple programming languages, including distributed programming, and an understanding of different frameworks and paradigms
• Ability to deliver high-performance, scalable, repeatable, and secure solutions with broad impact, including high-throughput and low-latency systems
• Ability to design new testing methods and resolve routine and non-routine technical issues with minimal assistance
• Strong proficiency in core development platforms within your domain
• Ability to build commitment within the team around shared priorities
• Understanding of the impact of your work on the team and Target’s guests
• Ability to influence and apply data standards, policies, and procedures
• Commitment to staying current with evolving technologies through formal training and self-directed learning

Responsibilities

• Apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within your areas of expertise. Evaluate new technologies based on their viability within Target’s technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership.
• Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities.
• Manage total product financials and forecasting. Lead service design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership.
• Lead code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging at the application level. Lead functional design and architecture discussions using process flows and system diagrams to inform decisions.
• Participate in routine and non-routine development, automation, and implementation activities, ensuring architectural and operational requirements and best practices are met.
• Provide technical oversight and coach others through complex or severe technical issues. Lead disaster recovery activities and contribute to disaster recovery planning.
• Embed data quality practices throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use.
• Independently collaborate with U.S.-based payments teams and partners to understand needs and drive shared solutions.
• Represent Payment Data Services in design, discovery, and other cross-team meetings during U.S. business hours as needed.
• Design and build reliable APIs and data pipelines that enable analytics capabilities for business teams.
• Explore emerging technologies—including agentic AI, MCP, and LLMs—where they improve engineering or data workflows.
