Job summary

Rippling is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to anchor the Money Movement and Treasury architecture hub in Seattle. You will own the design and implementation of a deterministic, config-driven ledger system to ensure accurate tax and payment liabilities.

You will lead a pod of senior engineers, collaborate with Payments Data, Tax, and Accounting teams, and drive an architecture that scales with billions in annual transactions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record in backend development and distributed systems.
• Ability to design large-scale, fault-tolerant systems from scratch and balance consistency/availability.
• Comfort working in ambiguity, proactively identifying problems and executing solutions.
• Domain agility to master treasury/money movement quickly and effectively.
• Proficiency in modern backend languages (Python, Go, Java) and data modeling/processing (SQL/NoSQL, Spark/Flink).

Responsibilities

• Architect the Foundation: redesign General Ledger and reconciliation systems for determinism and reliability.
• Unify the Abstraction: create universal primitives across payment systems for a unified ledger lifecycle.
• Build the Engine: develop a reconciliation replay/testing framework with the payments data team.
• Technical Leadership: anchor Seattle site, mentor senior engineers to build a decoupled execution layer.
• Cross Functional Execution: collaborate with Payments Data, Tax, and Accounting to meet regulatory reporting requirements.
