Job summary

Village of Elk Grove Village is seeking a Senior Engineer to oversee planning, design, and construction of infrastructure improvements such as streets, water mains, sanitary, and stormwater projects. The role includes supervising staff and consultants, preparing contract documents, and ensuring adherence to codes and standards.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Civil Engineering, 5 years of project management experience, and an Illinois PE license (or ability to obtain within six months).

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and five years of experience in civil engineering project management, design, and/or construction projects is required. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
• Required to possess a valid State of Illinois Class D or higher Driver's License and a safe driving record.
• Required to possess a Professional Engineer's license in Illinois or have the ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
• Considerable knowledge in the use of Microsoft applications as well as MicroStation and GIS system operation is preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction and ability to work outside in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee planning, design, and construction of infrastructure improvements for streets, water mains, sanitary, storm, and related capital projects.
• Supervise staff and consultants in developing conceptual designs, contract plans/specifications, bidding, construction observation, project documentation, and community relations.
• Apply extensive knowledge of civil, structural, and hydraulic engineering principles and current standards.
• Exercise independent judgment and provide strong customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
• Utilize MicroStation and GIS for engineering and design documentation.
• Ensure compliance with Village, County, State, and Federal codes, standards, and ordinances.
• Coordinate with other governmental agencies and departments as needed.
