Job summary

Elk Grove Village invites applications for a Staff Engineer in Public Works. This exempt, full-time position oversees planning, design, and construction of infrastructure improvements, with emphasis on quality, safety, and customer service.

The ideal candidate holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering, a valid IL driver’s license, and licensure as a PE or the ability to obtain within six months. Proficiency in MicroStation, GIS, and Microsoft Office is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and two years of experience in civil engineering project management, design, and/or construction projects is required.
• Valid State of Illinois Class D or higher Driver's License and a safe driving record is required. A Professional Engineer's license in Illinois or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire is required.
• Considerable knowledge in the use of Microsoft applications as well as MicroStation and GIS system operation is preferred.
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction and ability to work outside in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure sound engineering practices and compliance with Village, County, State, and Federal codes, standards, and ordinances for proposed public improvement projects.
• Perform the review, design, and construction management of projects, including roadway rehabilitations, sidewalks, sewer main replacement, traffic signals, street lighting, etc.
• Utilize MicroStation and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to prepare engineering and design documents.
• Inspect sanitary, storm, water main, street, curb, sidewalk, drainage, grading, and other public works components of the Village, and maintain inspection reports.
• Perform topographic and construction surveys.
• Ensure updates to GIS, and As-built records are accurate.
• Assist in the coordination of other governmental agencies' projects.
• Provide exceptional communication and customer service to the general public, other Village Departments, developers, consulting engineers, contractors, and Village officials.
