Job summary

New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources, seeks an Engineer III to plan, design, coordinate and manage construction projects in natural gas distribution, transmission and regulator facilities. You will oversee budgets, schedules, and subcontractors while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil or mechanical) required.
• Minimum of 6 years in public utility engineering or related field.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills.
• Detail-oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare work orders and design requirements for new and existing mains.
• Estimate labor and material costs for work orders.
• Create construction drawings for distribution system changes.
• Inspect potential job sites to assess field conditions.
• Design new gas supply systems for new customers, including commercial accounts.
• Represent the company at pre-construction meetings and promote safety standards.
• Review roadway project plans to minimize financial exposure.
• Oversee transmission and distribution systems and provide technical guidance.
• Evaluate effects of large customers and developments on system capacity.
• Design meter sets for large customers requiring elevated pressure.
• Assist departments with field inspections of meter sets and solutions.
• Obtain permits and prepare vouchers for installations.
• Provide technical support to various departments.
• Undertake projects like railroad, submarine and bridge crossings.
• Design and control large bid projects.
• Prepare bid documents and monitor construction activity.
• Upgrade mains to higher operating pressures per safety standards.
• Lend support to Standards Committee.
• Obtain permits from regulatory bodies.
• Develop Environmental Impact Studies and Traffic Control Plans.
• Advise on long-range capital improvements.
• Recommend repair methods for transmission facilities.
• Keep updated on technical changes.
• Prioritize rehabilitation work with Division Supervisors.
• Perform other duties as needed.
