Job summary

Shield AI is hiring an Engineer II or Senior Engineer to join the Human Machine Teaming (HMT) Experimentation capability. You will design and run experiments to test collaborative work requirements, conduct robustness testing, and extend operator-in-the-loop and live-virtual-constructive testing across environments and platforms.

You will quantify performance, build assessment batteries, translate results into design recommendations, and contribute to the HMT maturity framework.

Qualifications

• Degree in human factors engineering, psychology, cognitive systems engineering, or related field.
• Experience with human machine teaming, human factors, and performance measurement.
• Strong background in experimental design and multivariate statistics.
• Proficiency with SPSS, R, Python for data analysis.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary settings and produce structured artifacts.
• Excellent teamwork and written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Design and run HMT experiments that instantiate baseline and context-sensitive collaborative work requirements profiles.
• Conduct robustness and resilience testing, perturbing communications, sensors, autonomy, workload, and time pressure.
• Characterize context sensitivity of requirements across environments, platforms, and operator groups.
• Extend operator-in-the-loop and live-virtual-constructive testing with HMT experimentation.
• Define performance measures and build assessment batteries for situation awareness, workload, and trust.
• Translate findings into prioritized recommendations and feature requests for Development Leads.
• Contribute evidence to the HMT maturity scale and risk assessment and report results.
• Travel to company, test, demonstration, and customer locations (~25%).
