Job summary

Othello Post Acute is seeking an Activities Assistant to engage residents through group and individual activities, including in-room visits for bed-bound residents. You will plan, lead, and adapt programming to match residents' interests, cultures, and abilities, while maintaining a welcoming, homelike environment.

The role emphasizes empathy, strong communication, and reliable weekend hours in a supportive team setting with ongoing training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience in long-term/geriatric care preferred.
• Strong communication and customer service skills with genuine empathy for residents and families.
• Comfort working with residents who are cognitively or physically impaired.
• Ability to lift at least 25 lbs and stay mobile/active throughout your shift.
• No license required.

Responsibilities

• Lead individual and group activities tailored to residents' interests, abilities, and cultural or religious preferences.
• Bring activities directly to bed-bound or room-confined residents (music, reading, visits, in-room projects).
• Adapt activities to different cognitive and physical ability levels using prompts, demonstrations, and hands-on assistance.
• Help build and distribute the activity calendar.
• Gather input from residents to keep activity plans current and personalized.
• Keep activity spaces and supplies clean, organized, and "homelike".
• Monitor for safety hazards and report maintenance issues promptly.
• Support the social dining program.
• Accurately document participation and updates in resident records.
• Participate in fire/disaster drills and required in-service training.
