Title: Senior Energy Engineer
Location: Pittsburgh PA (Hybrid)
Job Description:
The Senior Energy Engineer will be involved in a diverse range of projects across all customer segments including government, healthcare, higher education, commercial, and industrial sectors. The role requires significant interaction with customers and demands an entrepreneurial spirit, technical expertise, and strong communication skills. This position offers a great career path within the energy services industry, covering all project phases such as sales support, proposal development, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and measurement and verification of savings. The Senior Energy Engineer will also mentor junior engineers to aid their development.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and develop energy efficiency and cost reduction strategies at customer facilities.
- Determine energy baseline and develop measurement and verification (M&V) methodologies.
- Calculate utility, operational, and ancillary savings; generate financial justification reports.
- Develop and maintain effective business relationships with target customers; communicate company’s efficiency strategies to meet customer goals and sales objectives.
- Support project implementation and delivery of equipment.
- Provide technical sales support and coordination internally and externally.
- Promote business activity by presenting concepts and technical findings during project development.
- Liaise with customer staff and contractors to address concerns.
- Assist with building audits and identify energy and water efficiency projects.
- Assist with commissioning and ensure contractor as-built record drawings are submitted.
- Troubleshoot problems at customer facilities.
- Become a technology specialist and stay current with innovations, sharing knowledge with the engineering team.
- Mentor less experienced engineers.
- Perform background and security screening for facility access.
- Adhere to safety protocols.
- Travel as required with a valid driver’s license.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- University degree or college diploma in mechanical/energy engineering, architectural engineering, or HVAC industry knowledge.
- Current professional engineer’s license in at least one state.
- Certified Energy Manager certification from the Association of Energy Engineers.
- Background and security screening for facility access.
- Minimum of 10 years of energy engineering experience, with a basic understanding of utility plants, HVAC equipment, and BAS controls.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of engineering and construction practices in retrofit/renovation projects.
- Experience managing multiple engineering disciplines on complex projects.
- Knowledge of occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Strong customer focus and relationship skills.
- Proficiency in energy efficiency calculations and spreadsheets.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Confidence to work under pressure.
- Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Experience with building modeling software (e.g., Trane 3D Plus, Carrier HAP).
- Ability to write technical reports.
- Experience working with consultants and facilities management on energy projects.
- Leadership abilities for managing engineering teams on larger projects.
- Ability to work effectively within a diverse workforce.
