Job description

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Senior Energy Engineer will be to assist in the development, award, and signing of energy efficiency contracts with customers of the company. This position is viewed as being critical to the long-term success of the business. As a Senior Energy Engineer, the Employee serves as the technical resource to the sales and operations teams responsible for identifying and understanding energy and operational improvement opportunities within a customer's facility.

The Senior Energy Engineer will be involved in a diverse range of projects across all customer segments, including government, healthcare, higher education, commercial, and industrial sectors. There will be significant interface with customers. This position requires an entrepreneurial spirit, technical diversity, strong communication skills, and excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

1. Identify and develop energy efficiency strategies at customer facilities;
2. Determine energy baseline, develop measurement and verification (M&V) methodologies;
3. Calculate utility, operational, and ancillary savings, and generate financial justification reports;
4. Analyze and quantify energy consumption and savings opportunities;
5. Participate in customer interviews, cultivate relationships, and identify new efficiency opportunities;
6. Serve as the technical expert during project activities;
7. Provide guidance to regional teams;
8. Develop measurement and verification plans to mitigate project risk;
9. Assist in developing and cultivating business relationships with target customers;
10. Support project implementation and delivery of equipment;
11. Provide technical sales support and coordination;
12. Promote business activity through presentations and concept development;
13. Liaise with customer staff and contractors;
14. Assist in data collection and site assessments;
15. Ensure contractor as-built record drawings are submitted;
16. Troubleshoot problems at customer facilities;
17. Assist with surveying buildings for energy projects;
18. Mentor less experienced engineers;
19. Perform other duties as required;
20. Travel as needed (valid driver’s license required).

Competencies

Formal Education & Certification

• University degree in engineering or relevant industry knowledge;
• Current professional engineer’s license preferred;
• Certified Energy Manager certification preferred.

Knowledge & Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of energy engineering experience;
• Knowledge of retrofit/renovation practices;
• Understanding of occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations;
• Strong customer focus and relations skills;
• Proficiency in energy efficiency calculations and spreadsheets;
• Ability to attain Federal Security Clearances and experience in Federal Facilities;
• Strong problem-solving skills;
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines;
• Proficiency with computers and office software;
• Ability to write technical reports;
• Ability to work with consultants and facilities management;
• Ability to collaborate with a diversified workforce.
