Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a Senior Technical Claims Specialist to lead complex energy claims and high‑exposure litigation across the nation. You will own coverage analysis, investigations, liability determinations, and settlements, coordinating with internal teams and external counsel to optimize outcomes.

You will guide strategy, reserves, and case posture while mentoring colleagues and ensuring regulatory compliance and data security.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years in complex Commercial Casualty claims with emphasis on litigated GL/Auto and/or Energy
• Energy‑specific litigation experience including upstream/midstream/downstream exposures
• Strong litigation management: oversee defense counsel, discovery, deposition strategy, mediations/arbitrations/trials
• Advanced proficiency in coverage analysis within a litigation context
• Ability to set and manage high-exposure indemnity and expense reserves
• Insurance legal/regulatory knowledge to apply sound judgment in complex issues
• All lines Adjuster License is required

Responsibilities

• Lead full lifecycle handling of complex Commercial Energy claims: coverage analysis, investigation, liability determination, reserving, and settlements
• Act as claim owner with authority to authorize payments and approve reserving strategy
• Develop litigation plans and settlement strategies from complaint to resolution
• Coordinate with internal/external teams (Legal, defense counsel, experts, underwriting, reinsurance)
• Oversee outside counsel and technical experts based on loss dynamics and exposure
• Advise on policy wording implications and emerging trends affecting claims practices
• Mentor less experienced examiners on investigations, negotiation, and litigation handling
• Maintain confidentiality and compliance with policies and security standards
• Participate in claims process improvements and cross‑functional projects
