Job summary

AT Process Technologies seeks a Lead Safety Officer to design and lead safety programs across our Waltham, MA R&D site and Berwick, ME pilot site, with ownership of explosives, process, and occupational safety. Qualifications

• 7+ years of EHS or process safety experience, with at least 5 years directly supporting explosives, propellants, or energetic materials operations at a DoD ammunition plant, GOCO facility, defense prime contractor, national laboratory, or commercial energetics manufacturer.
• Hands-on knowledge of DoD 4145.26-M, DESR 6055.09 / DDESB requirements, ATF explosives storage and licensing, OSHA PSM, and DOT hazardous materials regulations.
• Proven experience standing up safety programs for a new facility, process, or pilot plant.
• Demonstrated experience facilitating PHAs and HAZOPs for energetic or highly hazardous chemical processes.
• CSP, ASP, or CHMM strongly preferred. Formal explosives safety training is a plus.
• Must be a U.S. person with eligibility for security clearance; travel between Waltham and Berwick and to manufacturing site.
• Able to work with engineers and chemists to enforce safety in a fast-moving program.

Responsibilities

• Build and own ATP’s explosives safety program from the ground up, aligned with DoD and ATF requirements; manage hazard classification and explosive safety site plans.
• Implement and administer OSHA PSM program; lead PHAs/HAZOPs and manage MOC, PSSR, procedures, and equipment integrity.
• Serve as safety lead for Berwick pilot site; collaborate on layout, electrical area classification, storage, fire protection, and emergency planning.
• Oversee safety for energetic synthesis and characterization at Waltham; manage handling limits, testing, hygiene, and scale transitions.
• Provide program oversight for future manufacturing site; participate in PHA/PSSR during recommissioning and align safety programs with ATP standards.
• Develop and maintain written programs and training for hazard communication, lockout/tagout, PPE, respiratory protection, confined space, hot work, and powered industrial trucks; own incident tracking.
• Partner with Logistics and Compliance on safe packaging, storage, and hazmat movement; DOT 49 CFR classifications and hazmat training.
• Hold and model stop-work authority and drive a safety-first culture through training and leading indicators.
