Job summary

The Virginia Office of the Attorney General seeks an experienced civil litigation attorney to join the Trial Section’s Employment Unit as Senior Assistant Attorney General, offering public service, work-life balance, and a competitive benefits package.

Duties include defending the Commonwealth in state and federal courts on employment-related claims, performing legal research, drafting pleadings and briefs, conducting discovery, and representing clients in court and on appeal.

Qualifications

• Admission to the Virginia State Bar.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage a challenging caseload and work under pressure.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Defend the Commonwealth in state and federal courts on employment-related claims.
• Perform legal research and draft pleadings, briefs, and memoranda.
• Manage discovery (including e-discovery) and motions practice.
• Advise clients, appear in court, and handle trial and appellate work.
• Provide mentorship and work collaboratively with other attorneys and staff.
