Job summary

BDO USA is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to lead employment law matters, provide counsel on risk and compliance, and oversee litigation management for the firm. The role involves advising management and HR on a broad range of issues, including recruiting, employee relations, discipline, and investigations.

The position requires extensive experience in employment law litigation, strong negotiation and communication skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with external counsel.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate (JD) required.
• Ten (10) or more years of litigation experience as a practicing attorney in good standing.
• Eight (8) or more years of experience in practice focused on employment law litigation and agency defense.
• Five (5) or more years of experience with a law firm engaged in litigation practice; employment law/agency defense preferred.
• Experience counseling clients on employment related legal risk analysis and compliance; required.
• Restrictive covenant experience preferred.
• Experience managing and completing complex projects; preferred.
• Member of a Bar in Good Standing in state of residence; required.

Responsibilities

• Provides expertise in compliance and legal risk management in advice to management and HR professionals on a broad range of employment issues.
• Provides informal day to day training on legal developments to HR and management, formulating and revising HR policies.
• Provides legal counsel regarding restrictive covenant and other related contractual matters, including negotiating with opposing parties and drafting related agreements.
• Represents the firm in civil, regulatory and governmental litigations, subpoenas and investigations; coordinating the gathering and production of documents; interacting with opposing parties and outside counsel; drafting statements and settlement agreements.
• Manages outside counsel on employment related matters to ensure quality advice and service at reasonable cost to the firm.
• Other duties related to employment law and agency defense.
