Job summary

RTX in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking an EMI Test Engineer – Environmental Effects Engineering (EEE) to oversee daily EMI lab operations and act as the SME for EMI test equipment. You will support calibration, test chamber setup, and coordinate with services to ensure readiness.

The role requires a DoD Secret security clearance or eligibility, a STEM degree, and 5+ years of hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, signal generators, and power meters.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance (Secret).
  • Academic background in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience; or an advanced degree with at least 3 years of experience.
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting with engineering lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, power meters).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain EMI laboratory organization, equipment readiness, and consumables inventory.
  • Calibrate, set up test chambers and equipment; coordinate testing.
  • Serve as SME for EMI test equipment, troubleshooting, and best‑practice methodology.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with test hardware, configurations, instrumentation, and software.
  • Manage lab equipment needs, post‑calibration tasks, and coordinate with services.
  • Research, design, and implement new test capabilities; upgrade existing ones.
  • Create and maintain equipment configuration files and test profiles.
  • Update EMI procedures, datasheets, and test methods to industry standards.
  • Train and evaluate technicians; maintain competency and audit-ready records.
  • Prepare and coordinate EMI hardware evaluation testing as needed.

Job description

Position: EMI Test Engineer – Environmental Effects Engineering (EEE)

Location: Cedar Rapids, IA (USA)

Employment Type: Onsite – U.S. Citizen, U.S. Person, or eligible immigration status required.

What You Will Do
  • Maintain daily EMI laboratory organization, equipment readiness, and consumable inventory.
  • Support calibration, facility setup, and coordination of test chambers and equipment.
  • Act as the subject‑matter expert (SME) for EMI test equipment, troubleshooting, and best‑practice methodology.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to test hardware, configurations, instrumentation, and software.
  • Manage lab equipment needs, post‑calibration tasks, and coordinate with inter‑organizational services.
  • Research, design, and implement new test capabilities while upgrading existing ones.
  • Create and maintain equipment configuration files and test profiles.
  • Update EMI procedures, datasheets, and test methods to align with current industry standards.
  • Train and evaluate technicians; maintain competency and audit‑ready records.
  • Prepare and coordinate EMI hardware evaluation testing as needed.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance (Secret). This is a mandatory requirement.
  • Academic background: Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics).
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience; or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting experience with engineering lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and power meters.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with circuit board and radio frequency (RF) design, including schematic capture and PCB layout collaboration.
  • Proficiency applying military aerospace test standards (DO‑160, MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑704).
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic or circuit simulation tools.
  • Experience supporting RF hardware development at subsystem and system levels.
  • Willingness to pursue International Association for Radio, Telecommunications and Electromagnetics (iNARTE) certification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and presentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks and meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives with minimal oversight.

Compensation: $86,800 – $165,200 USD (based on experience, location, education, and skills).
