Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, seeks an EMC/EMI Project Engineer to lead EMI testing within the Environmental Effects Engineering group. The role focuses on test readiness, coordination across technical teams, and rigorous documentation throughout the testing lifecycle.

The ideal candidate holds a STEM degree with several years’ experience in circuit/RF design, EMI testing, and written technical communication. DoD clearance eligibility is required or obtainable.

Qualifications

  • Requires DoD Secret clearance eligibility or ability to obtain it.
  • Experience coordinating cross‑functional teams to align requirements, cost and schedule.
  • Background in circuit board and RF design with collaboration on layouts.
  • Knowledge of MIL‑STD testing standards and related procedures.
  • Ability to write and present technical material clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead EMI testing activities and coordinate readiness and documentation.
  • Work with test lab to ensure equipment, technicians, and resources align with project needs.
  • Develop EMI test plans, procedures and reports with accuracy and repeatability.
  • Maintain and review datasheets, data files, and configuration records.
  • Support continuous improvement of processes and documentation.

Job Title

EMC/EMI Project Engineer – Environmental Effects Engineering (EEE), Collins Aerospace

Job Overview

The EEE organization seeks a project engineer to lead EMI testing in a world‑class facility, managing test readiness, documentation, and coordination across technical teams.

Responsibilities
  • Support EMI projects through design considerations, requirement alignment, and participation in technical reviews.
  • Prepare for and coordinate EMI testing, including schedules, test readiness activities, and required documentation.
  • Work with the test lab to ensure equipment, technicians, and resources are available and aligned with project needs.
  • Develop and update EMI test plans, procedures, and reports, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and repeatability.
  • Coordinate and maintain test documentation such as datasheets, data files, photo logs, and configuration files.
  • Review test data for accuracy and assist test engineers with troubleshooting.
  • Participate in peer reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of documentation and processes.
  • Ensure technicians follow appropriate procedures and maintain accurate documentation throughout testing.
  • Provide internal and external customer communication and support throughout the testing lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance (Secret).
  • STEM degree with minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Experience coordinating cross‑functional teams, aligning requirements, cost, and schedule with program goals.
  • Experience in circuit board and RF design, including schematic capture and PCB layout collaboration.
  • Knowledge of military aerospace testing standards (DO‑160, MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑704).
  • Working knowledge of electromagnetic or circuit simulation tools.
  • Experience supporting RF hardware development activities at sub‑system and system level.
  • Willingness to pursue iNARTE certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and present technical material clearly and effectively.
Salary

Estimated salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD.
