Job summary

Mercor is seeking experienced Software and Firmware Engineers to support an advanced engineering and AI research initiative with a leading technology organization. We are looking for hands-on engineers who have designed, implemented, integrated, tested, debugged, or validated software and firmware that interfaces with real hardware.

Ideal candidates bring deep experience in embedded firmware, FPGA/RTL, flight software, and hardware test automation, with a strong track record of delivering robust

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software, firmware, FPGA, or embedded systems engineering experience.
• At least 3 years hands-on experience on real hardware.
• Responsible engineer for production hardware-connected software or firmware lifecycle.
• Deep expertise in embedded firmware/RTOS or FPGA/RTL or flight software or HIL infrastructure.
• Strong C/C++, Python, RTOS, device drivers, embedded Linux, SPI/I2C/UART/CAN, Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL, FPGA toolchains, hardware interfaces, telemetry, and automated test systems.

Responsibilities

• Apply hands-on software, firmware, and digital hardware expertise to complex tasks on real physical systems.
• Review embedded firmware, FPGA/RTL designs, flight software, test automation frameworks, hardware interfaces, and system-level workflows.
• Analyze architecture and trade-offs in real-time performance, timing, memory, compute resources, interfaces, reliability, fault handling, concurrency, and integration.
• Assess technical correctness, robustness, and practicality of solutions for hardware-connected systems.
• Identify implementation errors, race conditions, timing issues, interface failures, and resource constraints.
• Develop or review rigorous engineering problems, reference implementations, test cases, evaluation criteria, and accompanying documentation.
• Draw on experience with development, integration, hardware bring-up, debugging, verification, test automation, and deployment.
• Provide clear technical feedback grounded in real-world hardware constraints.
