Job summary

AssetWatch is seeking a Firmware Engineer to develop production embedded firmware in C/C++ for sensors, hubs, and gateways. You will help with electrical bring-up, validation, and product launch, bridging firmware, hardware, and field support.

The role requires Columbus-area presence, experience with embedded Linux/RTOS, and secure update flows. The team operates in a remote-first setup with distributed engineering across the United States and Ontario, offering a competitive salary and equity.

Qualifications

• Based in the Columbus, OH area and able to work from the office at least three days a week.
• Experience developing production embedded firmware in C/C++.
• Electrical engineering experience including reading schematics and debugging power, analog, and digital issues.
• Experience with network-connected devices, edge gateways or hubs (BLE, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, cellular).
• Embedded Linux/RTOS systems with diagnostics, logging, and state machines.
• Hands-on with firmware/hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, DMMs, probes.
• Experience supporting product launches from prototype to production ramp.
• Knowledge of secure connected-device practices (auth, TLS, secure updates).
• Git-based development with code reviews and clear technical docs.
• Strong written/verbal communication and cross-disciplinary problem solving.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, CS, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Develop production embedded firmware in C/C++ for sensors, hubs, and gateways.
• Design and debug device communication, scheduling, data collection, and OTA updates.
• Support bring-up, validation, and test plans for hardware and edge services.
• Work across firmware, hardware, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure launch readiness.
