Job summary

Crane Payment Innovations Inc. in Malvern, PA is seeking an experienced Manager of Embedded Software Development to lead the software and firmware that power CPI’s intelligent products.

You will manage distributed engineering teams, translate product requirements into executable embedded plans, and provide technical leadership across hardware interfaces, real-time systems, and verification to ensure reliable product lifecycles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years embedded software or firmware development with leadership experience.
• Strong C/C++ in resource-constrained environments.
• Experience with microcontrollers and embedded hardware architectures.
• Real-time systems, including interrupt-driven design and RTOS.
• Hardware/software interfaces, device drivers, and common protocols.
• Ability to read schematics and collaborate with hardware engineers.
• Debugging complex HW/SW interactions with appropriate tools.
• Software architecture, version control, automated builds, code review, testing.
• Experience delivering embedded software through full product lifecycle.
• Leadership and coaching of software engineers.
• Experience working with distributed engineering teams.
• Strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead distributed embedded software team in US and Germany.
• Translate product requirements into actionable embedded development plans.
• Provide technical leadership for architecture, design, implementation, integration and verification.
• Ensure collaboration across embedded software, hardware, systems engineering, test, validation, manufacturing and product management.
• Manage development across new products, enhancements, customer requirements and sustaining engineering.
• Establish engineering practices for quality, configuration management, code review, testing and release.
• Address real-time behavior, hardware constraints, reliability and lifecycle requirements.
• Coach and develop engineers with clear performance expectations.
• Support recruitment and workforce planning for embedded team.
• Drive improvements in tools, automation, build and test infrastructure.
• Represent Embedded Software Development in reviews, planning and cross-functional decisions.
