Job summary

Cutera in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to lead design and development of medical device software, ensuring ISO 62304 compliance and high safety standards.

You will translate system requirements into robust C/C++ embedded software for microcontroller and processor-based systems, collaborating with hardware, systems, and quality teams to support NPI, design transfer, and sustaining engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 12+ years of embedded software experience.
• Experience in ISO 62304 compliant medical device software development.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded applications.
• Experience with RTOS and bare-metal development.
• Ability to read schematics and datasheets.
• Experience with software verification and validation in regulated environments.
• Experience with risk management (ISO 14971) and design controls.
• Cross-functional collaboration with hardware, systems, quality, and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Lead embedded software development across the full medical device lifecycle per ISO 62304.
• Define system architecture, software requirements, and design specs with cross-functional teams.
• Develop and maintain embedded software in C and C++ for microcontroller and processor-based systems.
• Perform verification and validation including unit, integration, and system testing.
• Support design reviews and design control processes.
• Contribute to software documentation and assist with NPI, design transfer, and sustaining engineering.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve defects in development and production environments.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards through structured development.
