Job summary

Leonardo DRS in Melbourne, FL, is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead architecture, design, and integration of complex embedded solutions. You will guide junior engineers, own subsystems, and collaborate across hardware, FPGA, and verification teams to drive projects from concept to deployment.

The role requires strong C/C++ and Python skills, experience with Bare-Metal, RTOS, and Embedded Linux, and familiarity with Zynq MPSoC and Vitis IDE.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline is required.
• Minimum 5 years of embedded software development experience.
• Expert-level proficiency in C and C++.
• Strong Python development experience.
• Experience with Bare-Metal, FreeRTOS, and Embedded Linux environments.
• Experience with AMD/Xilinx MPSoC and Vitis IDE.
• Experience developing and debugging low-level device drivers (UART, SPI, I2C, DMA, GPIO, Ethernet).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, integration, and verification of embedded software components.
• Own software architecture decisions for assigned products and features.
• Develop software for Bare-Metal, RTOS, and Embedded Linux environments.
• Design and implement low-level drivers, middleware, and communication protocols.
• Lead software integration involving processors, FPGA designs, sensors, and imaging systems.
• Perform root-cause analysis and resolve complex software and system-level issues.
• Develop software requirements, architecture documents, design specs, and verification procedures.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor junior engineers in software design and debugging.
• Collaborate with systems, FPGA, hardware, verification, and program teams for project success.
• Support project planning with risk identification and schedule development.
• Participate in customer demonstrations and design reviews.
