**This position within the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) will be physically located at Eglin Air Force Base **

Position Summary

This position within the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) will be located at Eglin AFB, supporting the Advanced Deterrence group within the Enabling Mission Capability at Scale technical directorate. This group specializes in software architecture, development, and engineering, including evaluating source code and hardware description languages via static, dynamic, and embedded analysis tools for DoD and other government clients. The role involves collaborating with government programs to understand challenges, identify solutions, and guide the implementation of effective practices.

Key activities include:

  1. Providing embedded software engineering support at Eglin AFB.
  2. Collaborating with government program offices to identify strengths and weaknesses within acquisition programs and contractor bases, and developing solutions.
  3. Understanding customer challenges in continuous software development, integration, or deployment, and proposing tailored solutions.
  4. Analyzing cybersecurity approaches, methodologies, tools, and techniques to mitigate risks.
  5. Analyzing FPGA hardware and software interfaces described via VHDL or Verilog to ensure compliance with system requirements.
  6. Reviewing software test and evaluation techniques and methodologies.
  7. Analyzing outputs from static, dynamic, and complexity analysis tools to identify areas for improvement.
  8. Assessing contractor tasks, activities, and deliverables, and recommending mitigation strategies.
  9. Innovating and codifying new approaches to address engineering challenges.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • BS with 10 years' experience, MS with 8 years', or PhD with 5 years' in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields, with professional experience in software development or verification.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations, including within the SEI and sponsor sites, approximately 25% of the time.
  • At least 75% of weekly effort onsite at SEI or client facilities.
  • Eligibility for a DoD security clearance after background investigation.
  • Deep knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, including requirements, architecture, configuration management, testing, assurance coding, and metrics.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Ada, and hardware description languages like VHDL, Verilog.
  • Experience with embedded software development using RTOS like VxWorks.
  • Excellent communication skills for internal and external presentations.
  • Team leadership and participation skills in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and AI methods is a plus.
