Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to develop and verify embedded software for diesel engine control systems.

The role focuses on requirements, integration of algorithms, and robust testing across bench and target hardware, delivering production-ready software. Candidates should have embedded systems expertise, real-time software experience, and strong collaboration with controls engineers.

Qualifications

• Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science preferred.
• Experience with dSPACE, Git, Trace32 Debugger, CANalyzer, Cat Electronic Technician (ET), Matlab, C, and Python; CAN/SAE J1939.
• Experience working with and troubleshooting electrical systems.
• Prior work experience with diesel engine and/or machine software development.

Responsibilities

• Perform software requirements analysis for embedded features.
• Collaborate with controls engineers to integrate MATLAB/Simulink algorithms.
• Configure and build flash files; develop software-in-the-loop test scripts.
• Set up test benches and hardware/software configurations.
• Integrate software components into deployable images and flash files.
• Support software deployment to target hardware and ECUs.
• Develop test plans, validation procedures, and verification strategies.
• Execute unit, integration, system, and regression tests.
• Support HIL, SIL, MIL testing and analyze results.
• Identify and resolve complex defects; perform root cause analysis.
