Job summary

Our Next Energy Inc | ONE is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Novi, MI to design and implement software for battery management systems across driver, platform and application layers.

You will develop drivers, HAL, and I/O handling for BMS functions, work in an agile DevOps team, and contribute to verification, validation, and safety compliance through MISRA-C and ISO standards. A strong background in C, CAN/Ethernet, and automotive MCUs is required.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Electrical, Computer, or Aerospace Engineering or related field; M.S. preferred.
• Embedded software experience for automotive/industrial apps; driver to application level.
• Proficient in C for embedded systems.
• Experience with CAN, Ethernet, Modbus, SPI, and I2C protocols.
• Experience with automotive/industrial MCUs (Infineon AURIX or NXP).
• Hands-on debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN tools.
• Experience translating requirements into algorithm design and production-grade software.
• Familiar with static analysis and MISRA-C checks.
• Experience with lifecycle/change management and version control; CI/CD for embedded.

Responsibilities

• Develop drivers, hardware abstraction, and I/O handling for BMS functions.
• Design software from platform/base layers through application-level control logic.
• Verify and validate software through structured testing across criteria.
• Follow lifecycle processes and maintain traceability of artifacts.
• Establish and maintain documentation of software implementation.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and customers to execute ONE's BMS strategy.
• Root-cause and resolve issues, driving continuous improvement.
• Build subject-matter expertise in BMS topics and contribute to technical reviews.
• Work in an agile, DevOps-oriented team focused on continuous delivery.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
