Joby Aviation seeks an experienced embedded C++ software engineer to design, implement, and verify software for the aircraft battery management system and battery ground support equipment. You will help shape architecture and roadmaps, mentor engineers, and ensure safety-critical software meets stringent standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/EE/Robotics or related STEM field with 8+ years of experience, or Master’s with 6+ years.
• Expert-level modern C++ and real-time OS/embedded Linux.
• Deep understanding of microcontroller/microprocessor architectures and debugging embedded targets.
• Networking and communications experience (Ethernet/UDP/TCP, CAN).
• Experience providing technical guidance via design/code reviews and mentorship.
• Experience with git, CI/CD, and automated testing (unit/integration/HIL).
• Experience developing to formal safety-critical or high-reliability system requirements.
• Prior experience with Python.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and verify embedded C++ software for the BMS and BGSE charging system.
• Collaborate on architecture and roadmaps, provide guidance to engineers.
• Integrate algorithms into production embedded software and ensure performance and verification.
• Define interfaces with aircraft, hardware, algorithm, and backend teams.
• Develop software that connects the charger, aircraft battery, and backend systems.
• Ensure certification readiness through testing and documentation.
• Debug complex HW/SW issues on live high-voltage systems across labs, aircraft, and sites.
